The Hot Seat is a public bench that distills climate change data into a physically tangible experience.
Future temperature scenarios are programmed into an interactive app interface, which users can explore at their leisure. The interface connects to carbon cores threaded through the Hot Seat’s wooden seating slats, translating the numbers behind predicted scenarios into heating currents. As users explore the realities of future temperatures, the warmth of the bench changes -- the warmer a future scenario is, the hotter the bench becomes. An embedded solar panel provides on-site electrical power.
The interface includes information on projected temperature scenarios, places for reflection and options for further action and engagement.
